This weekend marks one year since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade and undermining the health, dignity, and freedom of women across America.
Here in Texas, we were already living in a nearly post-Roe world a year ago today, with the dystopian SB8 law turning the Lone Star State into a state of chaos and confusion and fear. That was, of course, the point. And as things have gotten worse in states across the country, they have gotten worse here in Texas, too, following the Dobbs decision.
The majority of Americans believe that decisions about reproductive health care--including abortion--should be made between patients and their care providers. People, not politicians. As do the majority of Texans.
The enormous gap between public opinion and public policy speaks to fundamental dysfunction in our political system. But our political system also gives us important tools to fight back against the assault on our health and freedom. And that’s what we have to do now.
We must work together to protect the equality, dignity, and freedom of American women. Giving up isn’t an option. Will you join me?
