Last year we watched in collective horror as the Supreme Court rolled back a generation of progress — decimating our fundamental right to make decisions over our own bodies and our lives — in the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

And, the truth is, I am as furious about it now as I was exactly one year ago — and just as relentlessly committed to fighting back.

Congress has the power to enshrine legal protections for abortion right now, and as your next congresswoman, I will work day in and day out to make sure our government fulfills its obligations to uphold our inalienable right to self-determination and bodily autonomy.

Chip in $5 or any amount you can at this critical moment to elect a relentless Roe defender to Congress NOW >>

As shocking and abhorrent as this decision was and is, these kinds of personal attacks against the rights of women, transgender, and nonbinary folks are nothing new. I have witnessed firsthand the systemic violence of a fundamentalist movement in Iran that has subjugated women and treated us as second-class citizens.

The U.S. and Iran are very different countries, but the effort to dominate and control women's bodies by a minority of religious extremists here in the U.S. is the same vein of conservative extremism that led to the Islamic fundamentalism in Iran.

Extremists won't stop at Roe because their movement is not just about abortion. It's about maintaining a system of power and control over the lives and bodies of women, LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, and marginalized groups and attempting to dismantle any progress we've made over generations.

As terrible and heartbreaking as the fall of Roe has been, we cannot lose sight of what needs to be done to protect our rights. The Supreme Court does not get the final say over our lives, our choices, or our bodies.

Today, we use our collective voice to say: WE WILL NOT GO BACK.

Stand up and fight back by chipping in $5 or any amount you can to send me to Congress and together we will codify Roe into law and protect the right to abortion now and forever.

With gratitude,

Sepi Shyne
