One year ago today, the United States Supreme Court stripped the fundamental constitutional right to an abortion when they overturned Roe v Wade.

One year later, anti-abortion politicians have banned abortion in 20 states and they aren’t stopping.

But not California.

One year later, we’ve taken proactive and innovative steps to ensure access to abortion care in California. We’ve added the fundamental right to abortion and the fundamental right to contraceptives into the California Constitution. And we’ve invested more than $200 million dollars since then in sexual and reproductive healthcare.

When I woke up this morning, I found myself reflecting on what the loss of Roe means and what we’ve been able to accomplish over the last year. But more importantly, I found myself thinking about what it means for the future.

I also can’t help but to think about people in other states who don’t have access to critical reproductive health care.

But I was inspired by something I read from Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California - That we must reimagine a better and bolder health care access system in a post-Roe world.

Planned Parenthood is right and I believe it all starts with ensuring reproductive freedom for ALL.

So, for the next 365 days, and every year thereafter, I am committed to fighting to ensure the ability for every one to control their own bodies, lives, and futures.

Will you imagine a world with reproductive freedom for all with me? If so, find out how you can join this fight, share your story, or even how to register to vote.

There’s work to do and no time to waste.
