Hi, team, it's Governor Gretchen Whitmer with an important message. One year ago today, the conservative-majority Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and sent our nation back to the Dark Ages.

Due to the Court’s destructive actions, the bodily autonomy of more than 36 million people was put at risk overnight.

Luckily Democratic governors like myself were ready to take action to protect and expand access to critical health care. But this isn’t a battle that can be won alone. If you’re with me, please add your name to our petition today and recommit to protecting abortion access.

When it looked like the Court might overturn Roe v. Wade, I got to work. Michigan was facing the risk of reverting to a near-total abortion ban because of a draconian 1931 state law. I knew we couldn’t wait, so I filed a lawsuit asking the Michigan Supreme Court to affirm the right to reproductive health care in the state constitution.

I didn’t stop there. In the past year, I’ve issued an executive directive calling our state government to action; I've taken steps to defend out-of-state visitors who seek abortion care in Michigan; and I've vetoed millions of dollars worth of line items in our state's budget that would fund attacks on reproductive rights.

And when this issue finally arrived in front of Michigan voters, they passed a ballot initiative that officially enshrined abortion rights into our state constitution.

But the fight remains in states across the country. Right now, we’re combatting far-right attacks on abortion from all directions: the GOP-controlled Congress, Republican governors, and extreme conservative-majority state legislatures. They’re legislating abortion bans, shutting down clinics, and even threatening contraception.

I’m fighting back, along with Democratic governors across the country, but we need supporters like you standing with us.

So I’m asking: Will you join me in the fight? I’m counting on you to be one of the 100,000 signatures the DGA needs to show the far-right just how committed we are to protecting abortion access nationwide.
