John,
Today marks the one-year anniversary since a Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell-stacked Supreme Court ruled on Dobbs v. Jackson, the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. This ruling has had devastating effects on reproductive rights across the country.
Since last year, 14 states have effectively banned abortion and several others have enacted laws and timelines so restrictive that they deny abortion access at 6 weeks, before most people even know they’re pregnant.
As a result, providers across the country have all reported a significant increase in the number of out-of-state patients, some of which are traveling up to 670 miles to receive health care — including to California.
John, one year after this devastating decision, I’m asking that you contribute what you can to your local abortion fund.
Abortion funds are support groups who help patients pay for their appointment, or help with the logistical cost of travel, housing, and childcare. Please, contribute what you can to help patients across the country access reproductive health care today. 100% of your donation through this email will go to the National Network of Abortion Funds.
I’m running for Senate because we are up against a radical and partisan Supreme Court hellbent on forcing a social agenda on a country that does not want it. In fact, data shows that abortion bans are deeply unpopular across the nation.
But there is hope. In the last year, we have seen millions of advocates mobilize to protect reproductive freedom. From Kansas to South Carolina, the work of passionate and dedicated activists has helped defeat right-wing attacks on abortion access.
John, it is vital that in Congress we stand up to these extreme right-wing assaults on our freedoms. Here is what we must do:
- Expand our Supreme Court: Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump stacked the Supreme Court, and unless we want an entire generation to suffer, we must unstack it.
- Abolish the filibuster: so we can continue to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms so everyone has the ability to make decisions about their own bodies, their own health, and their own future without the government interfering in their doctor’s office.
This is an issue that affects all of us. When a country starts losing its rights, it starts losing its democracy. Access to abortion care is about human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Please, chip in what you can today to help us provide the financial or logistical support a person needs to access abortion.
Together, we can rebuild the legal safeguards for reproductive rights.
