Find this Fish Hawk Near You!

Looking for a fishing buddy? One of the most widely distributed raptors in the world, and one of the few that specializes in eating fish, the Osprey ([link removed]) (Águila Pescadora [[link removed]] en español) nests along the coastlines, rivers, and large lakes of five continents and many islands.

The magnificent Osprey was once laid low by the effects of DDT, until Audubon and other advocates secured a ban on the harmful pesticide, setting the stage for this raptor's stunning resurgence. These large raptors can now be seen plunging feet-first to catch fish in many regions of this continent, from lakes in the mountain west to mangrove swamps in Florida.

A combination of the best available migration data and community science contributions allows us to make highly accurate maps showing the routes and abundance of hundreds of bird species. Get to know these amazing hunters by following along their migratory journeys with the Bird Migration Explorer! ([link removed])
