Dear friend,

One year ago, the Supreme Court dismantled our nation’s federal protection of abortion when they released their decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, and overturned 50 years of precedent set by Roe v. Wade in 1973.

When the news came out, I stated:“This decision does not reflect the will or realities of the American people but of a far-right extremist agenda that has been given a platform by the GOP on the highest court in our land.”

What was true one year ago is even truer today--this decision showed how out of touch the majority of the Supreme Court is with the rights of the American people. And they’re not the only ones who are out of touch.

The Republican Party continues to willfully ignore the priorities of their constituents and the real-life consequences the repeal of Roe is having on the lives of people across this country.

The fact is--the American people overwhelmingly believe that the right to an abortion should be protected.

I am proud of New York and other states that have taken exceptional efforts to expand protections for and access to abortion–both for our residents and for people who need to travel to our state for care.

But the job will not be done until the right to an abortion is codified into federal law, and I will continue to work alongside my colleagues in Congress to make that a reality once again.

In solidarity,
Nydia
