Today marks the one-year anniversary since the Supreme Court's conservative Justices overturned Roe vs. Wade -- That decision upended decades of precedent and set off a cascade of abortion restrictions across the country, including right here in Indiana.
Regrettably, our state has passed some of the most severe restrictions in the country, with the Republican-controlled legislature passing a near-total ban on abortion access.
This law is so extreme that it is currently being challenged in the courts.
Regardless of the outcome, however, Mayor Joe believes that politicians have no right to interfere with an issue as personal and painful as reproductive freedom. That decision should be left up to a woman and her doctor.
While there are limited options available to us at the local level, Mayor Joe and his Democratic colleagues are continuing to do everything in their power to protect a woman's right to choose.
