A year ago today the Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion, devastating millions of people across the country who desperately needed access to reproductive care.

Since that dark day, abortion access in America has been in crisis. In states across the country, people lost their fundamental right to make their own health care decisions, and we saw how it impacted the most vulnerable among us.

As we watched the GOP celebrate this devastating loss of rights, it couldn’t be more clear that Republicans had been working towards this day for a long time. They are dead-set on rolling back our reproductive rights, and they have been working for years to lay the groundwork for a nationwide abortion ban — which is why it’s no surprise that Kevin McCarthy and his extreme caucus attempted to pass an abortion ban on one of their first days in power.

But as a proud pro-choice champion I stood with my fellow Democrats to fight back, just like I helped pass the strongest reproductive rights law in the country right here in Oregon.

I will always fight to protect abortion rights and push back against efforts to put these decisions in the hands of the government because reproductive rights are human rights.
