 John, Healthcare is a basic human right. As a trauma surgeon, denying any patient the care they need is indefensible. Yet for millions of patients and doctors across the country, the freedom to make life-altering medical decisions has been taken away by GOP politicians. In a landmark decision one year ago today, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade and gutted fifty years of federal protections for reproductive healthcare. Ending the constitutional right to abortion paved the way for broader attacks on reproductive rights, with state legislatures creating new barriers not just for abortion, but for birth control access, doctors providing patient care, and much more. Fighting to protect reproductive freedom is a major reason I’m running for Congress. I’ve seen how bad policy impairs patient care. We need more doctors like myself who know firsthand how important it is to expand healthcare access, not create more deadly obstacles.
