A year ago today, a group of right-wing extremist judges on our nation’s highest court — a court that was designed to protect the freedoms of ALL Americans — decided that they should have control over who receives reproductive healthcare and who doesn’t and overturned Roe v. Wade.
But the attacks didn’t stop there.
13 states saw so-called ‘trigger laws’ go into effect. Laws were proposed within months across state legislatures further restricting access to reproductive healthcare. Republicans in Congress proposed a national abortion ban. Access to Mifepristone, a safe and legal drug used in medical abortions, is under attack and headed to the Supreme Court.
John, women are less safe today than they were 50 years ago. And Black and Brown women will disproportionately feel the consequences of these attacks, with Black women making up nearly a third of people getting abortions in the United States.

Attacks on abortion like these are not popular. We’ve seen that in special elections across the country and in the results of the 2022 midterms.
