Friend,
It’s been a challenging year for millions of women across our nation, as state governments have callously stripped away their hard-earned freedoms in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
A new, harsh reality of being denied care in an emergency, rape victims of all ages who become pregnant being forced to give birth, weeks-long waiting periods at clinics, desperate calls to abortion funds for assistance with procedure costs and travel expenses, and hundreds – even thousands – of miles traveled by those in need of an abortion, has set in.
It’s no secret that MAGA extremists would love nothing more than to impose a national abortion ban. But we haven’t lost hope.
I’m grateful that Connecticut has led the way and remained a haven for women in need of reproductive care, but we can’t stop fighting until those same freedoms extend nationwide. I was proud to cosponsor the 2023 Women’s Health Protection Act and will continue to vote against Republican legislation that threatens abortion access, and attacks both patients and providers.
Now is the time to recommit ourselves to the continuing battle for women’s rights, freedoms, and equitable access to essential healthcare.
Here’s what we can do together:
Register to vote. If you’re not yet registered to vote, now is the time.
Get involved. Grab a clipboard, attend an event, call your neighbors, talk to your legislators, and register voters. Get connected with your local Democratic Party here. [[link removed]]
Stay informed and educate others. Share accurate information and dispel myths surrounding reproductive rights.
Elect pro-choice candidates.
If you want to make a tangible impact, consider supporting abortion funds and organizations that ensure access to critical healthcare services, check out the National Network of Abortion Funds [[link removed]] to find one of the many organizations helping people get the access to healthcare they want and need you can support.
Our fight is far from over, but together, we’ll make our voices heard.
— Jim
