On June 24th, 2022, the Supreme Court threw out over 50 years of precedent to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark case guaranteeing the right to access abortion care.

The fallout from this decision has been far-reaching and catastrophic. Today, 13 states have adopted near-total abortion bans since this decision – leaving tens of millions of women without a choice over their reproductive health, family planning, or futures.

Since taking back the House, Republicans have continued to use their newfound majority to push further restrictions on reproductive care on the national level. If we don’t take back the House in 2024, we risk losing our most fundamental freedoms to partisan extremists. Every single Future Forum Democrat supports the right to access critical abortion-related care, and we have spent the past year leading the charge to protect reproductive freedom in the House.

After Roe was overturned, Future Forum Democrats unanimously passed an updated version of the Women’s Health Protection Act, along with the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, which would ban states from punishing those who travel out of state for reproductive health care.

In order to push back against state-level attacks on abortion and protect choice on the federal level from partisan attacks, Democrats must take back the House. And with just five seats needed to establish a Democratic majority, we are within striking distance of getting it done.
