Your eyes flutter open, but it’s dark, and you don’t know where you are. The room shakes, metal rattling around you. As your eyes adjust, you realize you’re in a cage -- too small to even turn around. It’s hot and stuffy, but there’s no water. You’ll be stuck here for hours and hours.
These are the conditions that millions of animals find themselves in on their way to being slaughtered. And it only gets worse from there.
Strung upside down by their ankles while fully conscious, birds are then put through an electrified water bath meant to knock them out. Finally comes the “kill machine” whose blades SEVER THEIR NECKS!
It’s gruesome, I know, Friend. But it’s happening to animals across the country right now.
The Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act would create much needed protections for animals during transportation and slaughter. Demand your representatives PROTECT innocent animals from Big Ag abuses by 11:59pm TONIGHT! >>
The bill would also offer protections for factory farm and slaughterhouse workers who regularly deal with the unsanitary conditions in which animals are kept and slaughtered. This includes health care benefits and severance pay if they’re let go due to natural disasters. For example, during the early COVID-19 pandemic, many slaughterhouses shut down and laid off workers without pay.
During these shutdowns, slaughterhouses used taxpayer dollars to “depopulate” -- aka killing millions of animals under cruel conditions, including GASSING and SHOOTING them. But the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act would PREVENT these inhumane methods of slaughter in disaster situations.
If just 1 of every 13 people reading this email sends a message to their Congressmembers, we can stand up to Big Ag, protect workers, and fight animal abuse! Please, Friend, add your name now!
