John – I want to tell you a little bit about me and the women who shaped me.

Why today? Today is a devastating landmark for women: one year since Donald Trump’s Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

So before I go any further, I have to ask: will you invest $3 – or a little more, or a little less – into this campaign? Any amount will go a long way toward helping my campaign pay off our 2022 bills and ensure this seat stays in pro-choice hands for cycles to come.

When my mother, who was born in 1931, married my dad, she lacked some of the most basic rights we take for granted today. States across the country had enormous restrictions on birth control – and often required a husband’s permission. When credit cards first came out, my mother couldn't get one in her own name. And she certainly wouldn’t have been guaranteed the freedom to end an unplanned pregnancy.

But that changed. Over the course of her lifetime — and for most of mine — women have gotten closer to achieving their rights as full and equal citizens in our democracy. 

This progress has made a difference — not just for women but for our communities, our businesses, and our country. Inclusion brings out the best in everyone, and the inclusion of women has helped our country become the strongest, best democracy and economy in the world. 

But now, this progress is being stripped away. Without the protections of Roe v. Wade, anti-choice politicians are passing laws that make women second-class citizens. 

If extremists had their way, our country would be a place where women's bodies are regulated.

At stake is nothing less than a woman’s fundamental right to live as a free and equal citizen in our country. That’s why I’m asking you to please rush $3 right now to keep fighting.

I am the third in a line of four women named Margaret. My grandmother, Margaret Cooke Byers, was born in 1897 and turned 22 on the day that Congress passed the 19th Amendment, allowing women to vote. My mother, Peggy Byers Wood, saw women achieve the right to control their own bodies, finances, and futures with the Roe decision. I am the third Margaret, becoming the second woman in the history of America to be elected both Governor and Senator. 

I'm sending you this email because if extremists’ vision for America goes forward, my daughter, the fourth Margaret, will have fewer rights than I did at her age. That's unacceptable.  

I need your support now more than ever. Please rush $3 or any amount you can to continue the progress we've been working on for hundreds of years.
