1 year ago, far-right Supreme Court justices stripped Americans of our right to access abortion care.

Back then, we promised as candidates to make Maryland a safe haven for abortion care, and since we won – we've gotten to work doing just that.

Maryland is now a leading example of what supporting reproductive justice and abortion freedom looks like.

Here's what our administration along with the state legislature has been doing to protect abortion freedom in Maryland:

- Stockpiling abortion medication. When anti-choice extremists decided to go after mifepristone – which has been well-researched and safely in use for over 20 years – we jumped into action. Maryland is now building a 3-year stockpile to ensure we never lose access to this important drug.

- Protecting everyone from other states' attacks. We were proud to pass the Reproductive Health Protection Act this year which ensures no one in Maryland has to testify or produce evidence if another state tries to punish them for legally protected health care.

- Helping Maryland college students access reproductive care. Our new law requires Maryland’s public higher education institutions develop reproductive health access plans to provide or refer for the full range of reproductive health.

- Protecting private medical information and reproductive health records of in-state and out-of-state patients.

- Joining 20 other governors to form the Reproductive Freedom Alliance – a first of its kind, multi-state coalition committed to protecting and expanding reproductive care.

- Enshrining abortion rights in our state constitution. Together with the state legislature, we passed a bill that will put this issue to Maryland voters next year. The ULTIMATE guarantee that Maryland always remains a safe haven.

We are incredibly proud of all the work we've done in just six months to deliver on this key campaign promise. While millions of Americans are seeing abortion clinics in their state close – Maryland is opening new ones.

But we also know far-right, anti-choice extremists aren't going to stop now that the Supreme Court has opened the door for them.

We are seeing an influx of patients from other states coming to Maryland to access care. Appalachia has become an abortion care desert. We know Republicans in Congress want to pass a national abortion ban.
