We cannot leave women's health and reproductive freedom to the political whims of state legislatures.

In the year since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision, we have seen the devastating physical, mental, and economic impact the decision has had on women and their families across the country. Pregnancy is complex, and it can be incredibly emotional, sometimes heartbreaking. As a mother and an adoption attorney for 25 years, I have seen this firsthand.

Scientists, medical experts, and patients should be the ones making the decisions about what treatment is right for them.

The majority of Americans oppose the Supreme Court’s decision to eliminate women’s constitutional right to make their private healthcare decisions  by overturning Roe v. Wade. And still, Republican politicians are pushing for more restrictions on abortion access.

It is essential that we protect the right of all Americans to access the health care they need without government interference, including reproductive health care and abortion services. 

One year after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health decision, I am more committed than ever to standing up against far-right extreme attacks on reproductive freedom.

Survivors deserve peace of mind while they heal and recover.

This week in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I questioned officials from the Federal Communications Commission about their plans to implement my legislation to help survivors of domestic abuse leave their abuser’s phone plan.

My Safe Connections Act helps survivors of domestic violence and other crimes cut ties with their abusers and separate from shared wireless service plans, which can be exploited to monitor, stalk, or control victims.

This legislation only works if we put it into practice, and I will continue working to ensure victims of abuse have the tools and support they need to rebuild their lives and recover.

Also, this week, I called on my colleagues in the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee to work across the aisle to combat the mental health and substance use disorder crisis. CDC data shows that roughly 300 lives are lost to drug overdoses every day.

As the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force, I recognize that this crisis touches every community in our country. It’s critical that we expand access to treatment and recovery services, especially for those involved in the justice system. 

Substance use and mental health disorders don’t care about our politics, and neither should our approach to addressing these issues. This crisis calls for an all-of-government approach to fight this epidemic, and I will continue pushing for action in Congress.

These funds will keep our firefighters safe and prepared.

New Hampshire’s firefighters put themselves in harm’s way each and every day to keep our communities safe. It is essential they have the tools, equipment, and support they need to do their jobs safely.

I was proud to push for these critical resources heading to our state to ensure first responders have the gear they need, and I will continue working to deliver for our firefighters.
