It’s been one year since a conservative majority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — stripping millions of Americans of their right to abortion and reproductive freedom in this country.
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was driven to the Court by Mississippi’s Republican AG, and the GOP declared their victory as open season on our fundamental rights as the fight for abortion access moved to the states. Republican AGs in GOP-controlled states like Texas and Georgia raced to put dangerous abortion bans into effect. Patients were left scrambling as they became increasingly unable to access the lifesaving care they needed while doctors grappled with navigating dangerous new laws that placed barriers on the care they provide.
Democratic AGs took action immediately as a brick wall against anti-abortion Republicans. In Michigan and Wisconsin, where centuries-old abortion bans were set to go into effect, Dem AGs Dana Nessel and Josh Kaul took action to block dangerous abortion bans in their states. In states like New York and California, Dem AGs Tish James and Rob Bonta doubled down on efforts to enshrine abortion protections and provide legal assistance to those seeking abortions from neighboring states. Dem AGs made it clear — they were ready to fight like hell for abortion access for Americans across the country.
It is imperative we flip AG seats and replace anti-abortion extremists this year, in 2024, and beyond. In 2023, we’ve endorsed two champions for reproductive rights in their fights against staunchly anti-abortion candidates:
Kentucky Dem AG candidate Col. Pam Stevenson is facing off against Russell Coleman — a Mitch McConnell ally who’s backed by anti-abortion activists.
Mississippi Dem AG candidate Greta Kemp Martin is challenging GOP AG Lynn Fitch, the AG responsible for driving the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and we can't stop now – will you chip in today?
