John,
When I travel around and talk to retirees about Social Security, and I tell them that I’m Michael Phelan, here’s how it usually goes:
“Oh, I get your emails!” (pause) “...you send a lot of emails.”
It’s true. We send an email almost every day. And around ⅔ of them are fundraising emails. (Sometimes it’s a bit more, if we have a project like a rally or a billboard we really need to fund.)
Here’s why we send so many emails: Our average donation in 2023 is $12.41. Here it is, straight from our ActBlue dashboard:
We’re up against some of the deepest pockets on Wall Street: the financial services industry has spent decades trying to privatize or destroy Social Security so that they can move the $2.9 trillion Trust Fund surplus from United States Treasury bonds into their own pockets. We’ve won every time, but it’s never been easy―even on an issue where 80% of the public is on our side.
We can only win when we stick together. We spent a lot on the debt ceiling fight. Putting up billboards one $12.41 donation at a time is tough. But it’s worth it because at the end of the day, we saved our Social Security system.
Can you chip in $12.41 (or more!) to make sure that we’re ready to fight Kevin McCarthy’s Social Security-cutting commission?
Over the rest of this summer, we’re planning:
-
More billboards and protests in districts of vulnerable Republicans like Lauren Boebert, John Duarte, and Marc Molinaro
-
Active meetings on Capitol Hill to make sure every Democrat boycotts Kevin McCarthy’s commission to cut Social Security and Medicare
-
A grassroots campaign to get a record number of co-sponsors on Rep. John Larson’s bill to expand Social Security, the Social Security 2100 Act.
We can only pull this off with your help. We don’t have big money behind us. We only have you.
Can you donate $12 (or more!) today to fuel our campaign?
Thanks,
Michael Phelan
