A year ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court released its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In doing so, they’ve effectively reversed decades of settled law that gave Americans the right to access abortion care. I believe today, as I did a year ago, that the decision to reverse Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey is a grave mistake that is wrong on principle and on the merits. We have seen the unfortunate health outcomes of this decision ripple across the country, with millions of women now living in states where they do not have access to reproductive health care. Here in Maine, we’re fortunate that our laws protect access to abortions. But our right to freedom should not be decided by where we live. Moments like this remind us just how important it is to elect leaders who will safeguard a woman’s right to make private decisions about her body. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to find a legislative path forward to codify the principles that the Supreme Court overturned. Respectfully, Jared Golden
