Friends – In a moment, I will share with you a personal message about why, as a trauma surgeon,
I decided to run for office for the first time in my life.

July 7, 2016, was a night that changed my life.
That night, a sniper targeted police officers in a mass shooting in Dallas, Texas, where I’m raising my daughter, and seven wounded officers were transported to my trauma center. The hours that followed were the hardest of my career. Our nation was already mourning from a mass shooting in Orlando (the Pulse nightclub shooting that targeted the LGBTQ+ community and killed 50) and now, another was breaking in the news.
M team and I did everything we could that night, butut we were unable to save everyone.t is impossible for me to put into words the full weight of the grief, anger, and pain I felt.
As someone who treats gunshot victims, I’ve told too many families that they would not see their loved ones again as a result of preventable violence. When will enough be enough? How many lives will we lose before our state and nation act on this crisis?
That night made me realize I could affect change and save lives outside of the walls of a hospital – it was my call to action to work with members of Congress on policies that would prevent gun violence (including the landmark gun safety bill signed into law last year by Joe Biden) and to now run for office myself.
If we’re going to win a majority in the House that will work to end gun violence, we cannot afford to lose Texas’ 32nd Congressional District – which Republicans used to handedly win by 20+ points up until it was flipped blue in 2018.
If elected I will be the first trauma surgeon elected to Congress in history and I will fight EVERY DAY to save lives – from gun violence, poverty, lack of quality care. Will you stand with me in this mission by making a donation ahead of my first-ever FEC deadline?
