Friends,
I hope you and your family are well! I wanted to provide you with a few updates regarding what’s going on –
SCOTUS Delivers Another Win for Life
This week, the Supreme Court provided another win for life! Last year, I led over 100 of my colleagues in the House and Senate to stand for the unborn and petition the Court to take up Kerr v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court overturned the decision made by a Federal Court and insisted the case be reconsidered based on recent rulings.
The Kerr v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic ruling remands the case back to the Fourth Circuit for consideration. This overturns last year’s decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that allowed Planned Parenthood to be listed as a South Carolina Medicaid Provider.
I trust the Court will now rightly side with Governor Henry McMaster and South Carolina in their fight to ensure taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is a pro-abortion activist group that has no place on South Carolina’s list of Medicaid providers because abortion is not health care. Click HERE for more information on this.
Life Wins: Celebrating One Year of a Post-Roe America
The very purpose of government is to protect our God-given natural rights, the first being the right to life. On June 24, 2022, LIFE won when the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade and declared it "egregiously wrong from the start."
Over 60 million unborn children died in the womb since Roe was decided in 1973, and now, countless lives have been saved in a post-Roe America. We know the fight for life has only just begun as it is now largely up to the states. I will never waver in my fight for life and will continue to do all I can to defend the rights of unborn children. If we don't stand for the unborn, then who will?
Biden Impeachment Proceeds, Schiff Censured
This week, we saw a lot of action and accountability on the House floor with the Joe Biden impeachment vote and Adam Schiff censure vote. On Thursday, I voted to move forward with impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden for high crimes and misdemeanors related to the southern border crisis and the national security threat his policies have caused. The president’s dereliction of duty at the southern border has led to an invasion of our country, with over 5.5 million illegal border crossings since he took office.
On Wednesday, I voted to censure Adam Schiff for peddling lies about President Trump and "collusion" with Russia when he was chair of the Intelligence Committee. Schiff lied to the American people, wasted taxpayer dollars on the Russian hoax investigation, and deserves to be held accountable for his actions.
Hardening Our Grid Infrastructure
Grid security is pivotal for our national security. Last week, my colleagues on the Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee and I held a hearing with experts and visited the electrical distribution substations in Moore County, North Carolina that were attacked in December to better understand how to enhance American grid security and resilience. It’s critical that we harden our power grid infrastructure to prevent against future attacks, which is why the Energy and Commerce Committee is leading the way on this issue. Concerned Parents Aren't Domestic Terrorists
The Left-wing SPLC recently labeled Moms for Liberty an "extremist" group and put them on a hate map for believing that parents, not the government, are the primary stakeholders in their children's education. I am proud to cosponsor a resolution to condemn the labeling of concerned parents as "extreme." It’s not extremism to fight to ensure biological men aren’t allowed on your daughters’ sports teams and for your school's curriculum to be appropriate for children. Hunter Biden's Sweetheart Plea Deal
This week, the Justice Department ignored the serious charges of influence peddling by the Biden Crime Family as they work a sweetheart plea deal with Hunter Biden on tax and gun misdemeanors. The Bidens must not be allowed to escape prosecution for the more serious crimes that are being investigated. Make no mistake—this is a White House-approved whitewash by the DOJ.
House Republicans are committed to getting to the bottom of the litany of Biden family corruption schemes, with or without the slap on the wrist Hunter is getting today with this plea deal. We cannot allow the two-tiered justice system to continue to persecute conservatives while looking the other way for liberals. Click HERE for more coverage of this.
Durham Testifies Before the House Judiciary Committee, IRS Whistleblower
This week, Special Counsel John Durham testified before the House Judiciary Committee, and if you had any doubts, my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee showed the world that the FBI was operating with one goal: to take down President Trump. We must eradicate the corruption in our justice system and ensure the failures seen in Crossfire Hurricane never happen again. Here's some of what we know:
-The FBI had no evidence in hand to justify the Crossfire Hurricane Investigation. -The FBI failed to examine evidence that went against their narrative targeting President Trump. -The FBI ignored concerns from case agents about faulty evidence and unsubstantiated accusations. -The FBI lawyers manufactured evidence to spy on a presidential candidate.
This week, my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee also showcased another example of “laws for thee but not for me” from the IRS and DOJ when it comes to the Biden Crime Family. Our justice system and the American people demand equal enforcement of the law—not preferential treatment for Hunter Biden. Click HERE for more information on this.
Given the Hunter Biden news from this week alone, I call for a special prosecutor to be appointed for the Hunter Biden investigation. Especially given the fact that he is the president's son, Hunter's unlawful and unethical activity is a threat to our national security.
Legislative Update
I cosponsored H.R. 4238, Rep. Stephanie Bice’s bill called "Kate's Law" or the Stop Illegal Reentry Act, to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to raise penalties for immigrants that reenter the United States after being removed.
I cosponsored H.R. 4181, Rep. Andrew Ogles’ bill to establish "Tiananmen Square Memorial Boulevard" on the street that the Chinese Embassy sits on in Washington, DC.
I cosponsored H. Res. 518, Rep. Lisa McClain’s resolution objecting to “extreme” labels being used towards parents that attempt to ensure that school curriculum and sports are appropriate for their children in age and sex, in light of Moms for Liberty being labeled an "extremist" group.
I cosponsored H.R. 4058, Rep. Josh Brecheen’s Healthy SNAP Act of 2023, to exclude soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts from being purchased with SNAP benefits (food stamps), and require the Secretary to ensure food for SNAP recipients reflects nutrition and public health concerns, as well as cultural eating patterns.
