WE REMEMBER
This week marks one year since the ability of women across this Nation to control their fate was assaulted by the very Court dedicated to protecting the rights of every citizen. The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs, Wade made women in America 2nd class citizens.
One year ago, Indian River County Democratic Party Chair William C. Evans said, "The repercussions of the ruling will be life-threatening and put women at risk of resorting to back-alley abortions, infections, and even death." And sadly, it has.
In April of this year, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill approved by the Republican-dominated Florida Legislature to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The new six-week ban is contingent, in part, on whether the Florida Supreme Court upholds the 15-week restriction.
In response to the activist Supreme Court reversing a nearly 50-year precedent taking legal rights away from women, Americans are calling for an expansion of the Court. Our democracy must advance fairness, justice, and equality. At its best, the Supreme Court has defended these ideals, but we can no longer ignore that it has become too political and too powerful. Get involved at Just Majority.
Join Indian River Democrats on July 4, 2023 to walk in the 4th of July Parade Please use THIS LINK to sign up as a volunteer!
We will have two decorated trucks to accompany those who are walking in the parade with the Democrats’ banners, flags and passing out candy. We want Indian River to see a LOT of Proud Democrats in the parade! After the parade, we will set up our tent and table at the park to register voters, collect ballot petitions, sell merchandise and connect with the community.
Following the parade, there will be festivities in the park. Live entertainment, food, craft booths, vendors, etc. Fireworks at 9:00 p.m. sharp. This is a fun-filled family event! This FREE event will take place at Sebastian Riverview Park, 600 US Hwy 1, Sebastian, FL 32958. Volunteer HERE.
