Colorado’s state legislature is only four weeks into session and Republicans have already introduced SIX Anti-LGBTQ Bills. That’s why Lorena has been at the Capitol all day testifying to stand up for the people and ensure that these bills fail.

Lorena doesn’t just talk-the-talk, she walks-the-walk, taking time off from campaigning to defend vulnerable communities right here in Colorado. We need actionable leadership that provides more than just lip-service.

Here are the bills that are attempting to discriminate against our LGBTQ community:

HB20-1273 “Equality And Fairness In Youth Sports Act”

This bill would prohibit transwomen athletes from participating on sports teams that correspond with their gender identity, further discriminating against our trans-youth members.

HB20-1272 “Colorado Natural Marriage And Adoption Act”

This bill would define “marriage” as being between a man and a woman only, and it would restrict all other prospective parents from adopting if they fall outside of the newly defined “marriage” term.

HB 20-1114 “Protection of Minors from Mutilation and Sterilization”

This bill would not only prevent doctors from conducting vital transgender affirming procedures on minors, but it would impose a 12-year prison sentence and a $750,000 fine on doctors who participate in such procedures.

HB20-1144 “Parental Rights”

This bill would violate doctor/patient privileges and allow parents to view all medical records, which could lead to more children being outed and ostracized by their families, which is a leading cause of LBGTQ teen suicide.

HB20-1033 “Live and Let Live”

This is a religious freedom bill that would allow discrimination against our LGBTQ community across various sectors, including adoption and foster care, healthcare, housing, employment, and public spaces.

HB20-1063 “Fundamental Family Rights”

This bill would make it harder for the government to step in and provide much needed protections for LGBTQ youth in abusive and negligent households.

We are at a point where we need to be strengthening protections and eliminating discrimination against our LGBTQ neighbors. If bills like these gain traction in Colorado, then it’s only a matter of time before we see Senate Republicans also promoting these deplorable policies.
