Not a single dollar of U.S. aid should go to funding human rights abuses.

But Congress keeps sending billions of our tax dollars to fund Israel’s military as it commits war crimes against the Palestinian people.

We have laws in place to ensure that U.S. aid does not contribute to human rights abuses that violate international law. With one exception: Israel. It’s time for Congress to hold Israel accountable and make sure that the U.S. is no longer complicit in Israel’s human rights abuses.

This legislation will make sure that U.S. tax dollars cannot be used by the Israeli military to imprison Palestinian children, to force Palestinians out of their homes or demolish their property, or to further expand settlements or steal Palestinian land in violation of international law.

Israel’s government rules over Palestinians with brutal military law, while using an entirely different legal system to apply to Israelis. This is apartheid and settler colonialism, with state-sanctioned ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of indigenous Palestinians.

As an activist in the Ferguson Uprising, I met with Palestinians and saw how our struggles against militarized police and state-sanctioned violence are connected. In the U.S., our so-called justice system criminalizes Black people simply because of the color of our skin. Similarly, Israel’s military and police automatically criminalize Palestinians because of their ethnicity.

I oppose supremacist systems and injustice anywhere, and I legislate from a place of a love for all humanity. That’s why I’ve opposed Israel’s apartheid, even when I’m targeted for speaking the truth. We’ve got to show public support so more progressives in Congress see that they can take a similar stance.
