Demand Action on Extreme Heat

With summer upon us, extreme heat is becoming a danger once again. However, our city is totally unprepared to protect its vulnerable residents. Heat is the deadliest impact of climate change, and it also disproportionately impacts Black New Yorkers. Join us on Thursday, July 6 at 12 pm in City Hall Park for Too Hot to Handle: A Rally To Demand Action on Extreme Heat.

Bring signs and come ready to raise awareness and demand legislative action to improve our city’s ability to adapt to extreme heat and mitigate negative health impacts. Specifically, we'll be calling on the city to: Codify cooling centers, preserve New York City’s existing tree canopy, set a maximum summer indoor temperature in buildings, and expand green infrastructure pilots.

Expanding the Electric Grid Equitably

To achieve a green energy future with electrification, we need to drastically increase the capacity of our electric grid and this includes our transmission infrastructure, such as power lines. We joined partner organizations to create a roadmap with guidelines and clear, actionable steps for policymakers to ensure our transmission system can meet the growing demand for clean energy, while preventing harm to impacted communities and without eroding bedrock environmental protections.

Prepare for Extreme Heat and Flooding in Northern Manhattan

Are you prepared to deal with extreme weather events and climate change in your Uptown neighborhood? WE ACT has developed the Climate Readiness Uptown Plan (CRUP) ([link removed]) to prepare residents for climate emergencies such as flooding and extreme heat. Join our upcoming workshop on Saturday, July 8 at 11 am at Hamilton Grange Library at 503 W 145th Street to learn more about CRUP and the steps you can take to get yourself and your community ready.

Demanding the EPA Stop False Climate Solutions

The fossil fuel industry and government agencies continue to promote unproven, dangerous, and environmentally unjust climate schemes, such as hydrogen and carbon capture, and we're pushing back.

Manny Salgado testified ([link removed]) before the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) opposing regulation loopholes that could help fossil fuels continue the buildout of unproven technology in frontline communities.
