Women need equal rights under the law once and for all.

We made history today! The House just moved the Equal Rights Amendment forward.

I’ll be honest with you -- it’s long overdue.

When I was born in 1972, my mother was reassured by the fact that the ERA -- authored by New Jersey suffragette, Alice Paul -- was passed that same year. Unfortunately, this still isn’t the law of the land.

Today, we took an important step forward to right that wrong.

We need to rally as much support as possible for the Equal Rights Amendment. I need 2,800 supporters to sign our petition supporting equal rights before midnight tonight. Will you add your name to mine?

The ERA would finally codify women’s equal rights under the Constitution, prohibit discrimination based on sex, and prevent these critical protections from being rolled back in the future.

I co-sponsored this measure not only because it’s essential for women all over the country but it’s also a deeply personal issue for my family.

I share my mother’s concerns from almost 50 years ago. I want my children to grow up in a world where everyone gets a fair shot, and I want my daughters to have the same opportunities and the same rights as my sons.

Now, I’m asking for you to join the fight: Will you be one of the 2,800 supporters sign our petition?

Thank you for your support,

Mikie
