President Biden’s veto just protected 72 million Americans

John,

You know the saying: The green pen is mightier than the anti-climate sword — or at least, that’s how the adage goes with climate-forward leadership at the helm.

Earlier this month, Republicans in D.C. tried to slash the EPA’s new pollution regulations on heavy-duty trucks, effectively giving them the greenlight to continue pumping dangerous air pollutants into communities along major trucking routes.

But thanks to President Biden’s veto and our SEEC Members’ ongoing fight to protect public health and cut down our polluting emissions, their resolution won’t make it past the walls of Congress.

John, the EPA’s regulations mark the first time in over twenty years that we’ve cracked down on diesel emissions, and it’s already projected to have major benefits to the health of our families and communities. By 2045, these regulations are expected to prevent up to 2,900 premature deaths, 6,700 hospital admissions and emergency department visits, and 18,000 cases of childhood asthma.

By signing this veto, President Biden has taken action to protect the health and well-being of over 72 million Americans and deliver $36 billion in benefits to our nation.

This is a huge victory, but we know Republicans won’t stop trying to clear the way for dirty corporations to keep spewing toxic emissions into our air for us to breathe — and we can’t let these attacks continue escalating to the President’s desk.

That’s why we’re gearing up to elect even more climate fighters to office in 2024 who are ready to support President Biden’s environmental agenda and stave off Republicans’ efforts to backpedal on our fight against air pollution.
