Notes from Mike's Desk from the Week of June 19 – 23, 2023
Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to my weekly newsletter highlighting what’s happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District. I’m always grateful when you recommend this resource to others.
IN THE HOUSE
This week, the House Armed Services Committee passed the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual legislation that funds and sets priorities for our military and includes major priorities for the military installations in our district. This year’s NDAA will strengthen our national defense, better prepare us to deter China and our other adversaries, curb wasteful spending, prioritize military and industrial base readiness, and care for our servicemembers and their families.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
On Wednesday, Special Counsel John Durham testified before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions about his “Durham Report,” the investigation into the justifications and origins of the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. Based on the review of Crossfire Hurricane and related intelligence activities, the DOJ and FBI “failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law.” This betrayal illustrates the egregious actions taken by the FBI that have further eroded Americans’ trust in our institutions.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
On Wednesday, we voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff – a Democrat from California who, as many of you know, was the key Congressional architect of the Russia collusion hoax and who weaponized the Intelligence Committee for his own political pursuits. The Russia collusion sham impeachment was a dark stain on America’s history, and House Republicans are making good on our mandate to ensure that justice is blind and applied equally.
LAGNIAPPE
After a comeback, walk-off homerun Thursday night in the College World Series, our LSU Tigers are back in a familiar place – the National Championship. They will face the Florida Gators in a best of 3 starting Saturday, and the Johnson family will be rooting along as they try to bring home their 7th national title.
Thank you again for subscribing and reading. We’ll have more next week!
