Friends,

This week I testified in front of the Energy and Commerce committee hearing to question why the EPA is seeking to force Americans into buying unaffordable electric vehicles, and spoke at another hearing on how we can protect Americans from the Mexican drug cartels' new drug — “zombie fentanyl.”

I also messaged on the Titan sub, and had the privilege to speak at a Live Action press conference to commemorate one year since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Sincerely,

What You Should Know About The Cartels' New Drug: Zombie Fentanyl

Image

One of my top priorities in Congress has always been protecting Americans from the cartels — that hasn’t changed. Biden has left our border wide open, causing nearly 5 million encounters since he took office. These encounters have also led to deaths — American deaths, caused by the Mexican drug cartels that are trafficking fentanyl over our borders. This heavily impacts communities in my district, like Harris County, where fentanyl and fentanyl derivatives kill at least one person every day. “Zombie fentanyl” is a deadly combination of fentanyl and xylazine — a powerful sedative used primarily as a horse tranquilizer. This addition makes the drug more addictive, cheaper to produce, easier to sell, and almost undetectable to law enforcement. That’s why I’ve signed onto @repaugustpfluger’s legislation to permanently schedule illicit xylazine and give law enforcement better tools to track this drug and prosecute traffickers with the penalties they deserve. Lives are at stake, and this is just one of the measures we can take to save them.

"You Don't Have To Have An Opinion On Everything."

Image

A major problem in our politics today is people believing they need to have a strong opinion about EVERYTHING. Young people fall into this trap often, especially with the 24/7 news cycle and social media. Our political climate is very animated and reactive. People think they “win” a debate simply because they have the loudest opinion, even if that opinion isn’t based in facts. People take stances on issues they know nothing about, often because they fear being judged for choosing the “wrong” side. The phrase “think before you speak” is one we all grew up hearing, and it still applies in adulthood. Before you form an opinion on something, ask questions, do your research, and (arguably the most important) don’t jump the gun on forming an opinion. And guess what? You don’t always have to “choose a side.” It’s okay to not know. It’s okay to not have a preference. You’ll look wiser for choosing when/if to weigh in, instead of reciting talking points on something you know nothing about, and may not even believe.

"If My Daughter Identifies As Having One Eye, Should The Doctor Just Remove It?"

Image

Let’s do a quick thought experiment for those advocating we encourage children to transition genders: My daughter will grow up with a father with one eye. What if one day, she too wanted to identify as monocular, just like her dad? We could come up with some formal sounding name for it, like “monocular dysphoria.” Do you think we should then take her to medical professionals to fulfill the wishes of my child? And would you be ok if those medical professionals ENCOURAGED this surgery and performed it? Of course not, because that’s crazy. The only problem with this analogy is that an eye is actually LESS important than gender and certainly less important than reproductive organs. And yet, that is exactly what is being encouraged and facilitated by children’s hospitals across the country: a permanent physiological transition to the opposite sex. “Gender-affirming care” is treated as a new, compassionate frontier in medicine by adults and practitioners who know better. The good news is the American public is not buying into this madness. Nearly 70% of Americans oppose providing puberty blockers for minors. There is nothing compassionate about walking a child down a path from which they cannot return. It’s time for adults and doctors to act responsibly, and not treat our children like lab rats for the latest fad in pseudoscience.

"This Is The Issue Of Our Time"

Image

Compassion has two meanings in the debate over child gender transition. Radical activists claim that it’s “compassionate” to partake in a pseudoscience that permanently disfigures children. I believe compassion means NOT making permanent, life-altering medical decisions based on a child’s temporary ideation about their gender. To any sane person, that’s not a controversial take. It’s beyond insane that these same radical activists have successfully coerced once-credible medical institutions into adopting their extremely dangerous narrative. These institutions are destroying the lives of innocent children just to appease a woke mob. This is not evidence-based care — which is the ONLY thing our medical institutions should be providing. My bill will hold these hospitals accountable and protect our kids by blocking graduate medical education program funding from any children’s hospital that provides what they call “gender affirming-care” (Aka, permanently disfiguring children through puberty blockers, or even surgery).

Rep. Garret Graves was one of Speaker McCarthy’s lead negotiators on the debt ceiling deal with the White House. He joins me to describe what really happened in negotiations behind closed doors, the strategies they used to maximize their leverage against Biden, and how they dealt with the blowback after false rumors about the deal started circulating among their Republican colleagues. The Wall Street Journal: U.S. Becomes Transgender-Care Outlier as More in Europe Urge Caution

In a congressional hearing last week, GOP politicians and their expert witnesses repeatedly cited European examples of increased caution and portrayed Democrats and the U.S. medical community as having gone too far in making treatments readily available for minors. “It’s beneficial to see European countries coming to their senses,” said Rep. Dan Crenshaw, (R., Texas) in an interview after citing U.K. systematic evidentiary reviews of puberty blockers in last week’s hearing.

Canada, Spain, and Australia still allow puberty blockers for children, although pushback is growing. “It’s beneficial to see European countries coming to their senses,” Rep.
