In today’s day and age, there’s no such thing as an underdog.

Hi friend—In today’s day and age, if Donald Trump can win the presidency, there is no such thing as an underdog.

I’ve heard rumors that some people are writing off my candidacy to succeed Adam Schiff in CA-30 as not “viable.” So I thought I’d lay out my planned path to victory and see if you think it could work.

  • First of all, I’m the most progressive Democrat in a very blue district. Democrats won 78% of the primary votes in 2022, and no Republicans advanced to the general. Who did? Me. A progressive Democrat is very, very viable.

  • Second, we’re not raising as much money as some of our more conservative opponents. That’s okay! We have just as many supporters, if not more—they’re just normal people, contributing what they can. That’s a bigger show of strength, in my opinion.

  • Last but not least, this race has a whopping 17 (!) candidates. And that’s just those who have officially declared! More are likely to enter. With a field split that many ways, and many of those candidates raising big sums of money, what will ultimately matter is your base of support. And mine is strong—I’ve received more votes every time I’ve run, and had 60,000 people in the district vote for me in last year’s general election.

When we texted voters last cycle, many responded saying they liked my platform but had to vote for Schiff because of his experience. Understood! We expect to win many of these voters in 2024.

But we’ll need your help to do it.

We’re just a week away from our big end-of-quarter fundraising deadline and we’re not quite at pace with our goal. Can you pitch in now to help us across the finish line?

Your donation will go toward postcards, mailers, texting and canvassing voters right here in our district. We have a lot of volunteers and need to make sure they get the support they need to recruit as many people as possible to our cause!

Are you with us? There’s no such thing as an underdog anymore.

In solidarity,

Maebe

About our June 30th fundraising deadline:

Every quarter a political campaign has to release its fundraising numbers, and June 30th is our upcoming end-of-quarter deadline. Current officeholders and advocacy groups look at quarterly fundraising when choosing who to endorse, using money as an indicator of “viability.” In a perfect world we’d have publicly funded elections, but right now a grassroots campaign like ours needs to raise at least $150,000 this quarter to show our strength, get key endorsements, and win. We don’t take any corporate PAC or special interest money, but with your grassroots support, this goal is within reach. Please contribute to Maebe’s campaign before June 30th so we can show the power of bottom-up organizing!
