Yes, it’s that time of year again: Time to vote for the nation’s worst offenders to be inducted into the Corporate Hall of Shame!
We’re not naming names, but we are asking YOU to!
Which companies out there have had the most destructive impact on the world around us? Which have committed the worst abuses of human rights? Which have fought the hardest against reversing climate change and moving into green economies? Which have supported corrupt politics, given platforms to the unconscionable, and worsened the consolidations of wealth and power?
We’re sure you can think of a few that stand out! Cast your vote in the Corporate Hall of Shame and call out corporations that have demonstrated the most blatant disregard for our society, our environment, and our health.
For us, adding up the votes is just the beginning. Once we’ve identified the nation’s worst offenders, we will use the results to focus our strategies to work for change. Partnering with allies, we will mobilize grassroots pressure and turn up the heat on corporations that corrupt the political process and abuse human rights, the environment and our public health.
Corporate abuse can take many forms, causing harm to people, the environment, and society. Some companies engage in union busting, harassing and illegally firing employees who seek to organize to fight corporate abuse.
Some companies have worsened the chasm between the ultra-wealthy and the other 99%, paying CEOs and other top executives extravagant salaries and prioritizing shareholders’ returns over the well-being of employees, who are underpaid and overworked.
Some companies outright support politicians and causes that are antithetical to democracy and a well-informed electorate. Some give those who distort our politics the opportunity to spread their dangerous misinformation and outright lies, promoting hatred and violence.
Some companies are allowed to engage in gigantic corporate mergers that enable them to dominate and monopolize their markets. Some hide the actual costs of their products in hidden fees, or make it nearly impossible to end a subscription, or create fake accounts in their customers’ names without their knowledge or consent.
Other forms of corporate abuse include endangering the public health, disrupting the environment, destroying rainforests or oceans, misrepresenting and profiting from harmful products, or stepping with a heavy carbon footprint.
Companies may show blatant disregard for human rights, exploiting child labor in the U.S. or abroad, or building things in foreign sweatshops with abominable conditions and worker pay.
There may be disregard for the cultures and sacred sites of Indigenous peoples, or trampling on the rights of women and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Vote in the Corporate Hall of Shame and advocate for a future where corporations prioritize the well-being of people and the planet over profits.
