The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Conducting Oversight Over Open Northern Border Reports
Congressman Tom Tiffany (R-WI), Congressman Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and I sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy Miller regarding reports that CBP officials are being instructed to extend the operating hours of Northern Border ports of entry up to 24 hours without sufficient manpower to monitor them.
Americans deserve to know why their borders are not being secured. Now that the Biden Administration has dismantled our southern border security, they have moved to dismantle our northern border security.
It’s unconscionable to hear that the Biden Administration would authorize inadequately supervised or even completely unmanned ports of entry. The American people deserve to understand the extent of this problem. There are numerous recent intelligence reports revealing that the northern border is experiencing an unprecedented surge in illegal border crossings—including by foreign nationals from terror-prone countries.
There is simply no way to justify an open border policy like this and I look forward to hearing Mr. Mayorkas and Mr. Miller’s rationale behind their current practice.
The letter may be read here.
Fox News covered the letter here.
Hunter Biden's Bogus Plea Deal
This week, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor tax offenses and a felony firearm crime. While at first glance this may seem that justice was finally served to a Biden Family member—it hasn’t.
By pleading guilty to these lenient charges, Hunter Biden avoids jail time and distracts Americans from more serious crimes he likely committed.
The timing of the plea deal news is also suspect as it was delayed for years and strategically released during the week that Special Counsel John Durham testified before the House Intelligence and House Judiciary committees. This may have been a coordinated effort in order to distract from Durham’s damning testimony on the FBI’s corruption.
Make no mistake, this plea deal will not impede the House Oversight & Accountability or House Judiciary Committee’s investigations into him and the rest of the Biden Family. They are not above the law.
Censuring Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA)
I voted, along with my Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives, to formally censure Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) for his perpetuation of the Trump-Russia hoax while serving as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
A censure is one of Congress’ most serious forms of condemnation. Congressman Schiff will now be referred to the House Committee on Ethics and will face a more thorough investigation.
Congressman Schiff must be held accountable for abusing the public trust and weaponizing his position to unlawfully target a political opponent. For years, he promulgated the Trump-Russia collusion hoax without a shred of evidence, and continued to publicly do so even on the day he was censured. He is one of the main reasons why so many Americans distrust Congress.
House Judiciary Committee Activity
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled the “Report of Special Counsel John Durham.”
My colleagues and I further examined Mr. Durham’s damning report, which revealed that the Department of Justice and the FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” by launching their probe into the Trump campaign.
We not only clarified components of the report but also asked Mr. Durham for recommendations to help Congress restore integrity within the DOJ and FBI.

I chaired the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance hearing titled “Examination of Clemency at the Department of Justice.”
My colleagues and I reviewed how the Department of Justice is weaponizing prosecutorial powers to re-prosecute individuals that have already been granted clemency. Clemency is granted by Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, where the President has the authority to “grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” I’ve sent two letters to the DOJ on this issue, both relating to an individual named Philip Esformes who faced this type of weaponization.
This troubling behavior is just the latest in a pattern of repeated, systemic corruption by the Biden DOJ. The Department requires a complete overhaul.

Top Op-Ed of the Week
I wrote an opinion editorial for the Washington Times regarding the Biden Administration's failed foreign policy towards China.
The Chinese are now set to build a spy base in Cuba—which stands only 90 miles from the United States' coast.
I am deeply concerned about the China's aggressiveness and consider them our top national security threat.
