John:

Good afternoon from Capitol Hill.

The House and Senate are in session this week and will both depart for a two-week recess over Independence Day. The House and Senate will both come back into session the week of July 10.

Freshman Representative Anna Paulina Luna stepped into the legislative and procedural spotlight this week by offering an amended version of her Censure Motion of the former Intelligence Committee Chairman, Adam Schiff. Democrats offered a motion to try and “table” (essentially prevent the measure from coming for a vote) her motion. That failed ([link removed]) along party lines 208-218. Ultimately, the censure resolution passed along party lines, 213-209 ([link removed]) , with Republican Ethics Committee members voting present. Democrats took to the floor to disrupt ([link removed]) the proceedings causing a five minute long standoff in the well of the House.

Congresswoman Luna explains ([link removed]) that, “It is well within my right as a Congresswoman to file a privileged motion and hold Adam Schiff accountable for abusing and exploiting his official position and bringing dishonor to the House of Representatives. I am fully aware of the constitutionality of it all and that is what this is about.” Representative Luna’s motion drew responses from most of the Democratic leadership, including ([link removed]) former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Congresswoman Boebert also had something to say ([link removed]) about Adam Schiff on the House floor, “If Adam Schiff has a shred of human decency left, he would resign from Congress in disgrace. His tombstone should read, of his failed career in Congress, and should be one word, liar.”

This wasn’t the only privileged resolution ([link removed]) filed this week, as Congresswoman Boebert also stepped into the spotlight by offering a privileged motion to bring Articles of Impeachment to the floor against President Joe Biden. Her articles ([link removed]) of impeachment identify President Biden’s total negligence in the crisis on the Southern Border as justification for Impeaching him. Many conservative Members agree. Congressman Bob Good took to Twitter to say ([link removed]) , “Instead of worrying about forcing “tough votes” on members who will have to show where they stand on impeaching Biden, maybe we should worry about the tremendous harm being done today by the Biden Border Invasion.” Some disagree on the timing though, given the ongoing investigation by Chairman Comer in the Oversight
Committee. Sen. John Cornyn weighed in saying ([link removed]) , “I know people are angry. I’m angry at the Biden administration for their policies at the border and a whole host of other things, but I think we also need to look at what’s achievable. And with a Democratic majority in the Senate, I don’t think that’s achievable.” On Thursday the motion ([link removed]) was referred ([link removed]) to the Homeland Security, and Judiciary Committees.

As Members depart for the two-week congressional recess, these two actions will consume much of the conversations between the Members and their constituents.
