Today, marks the 1-year anniversary of the monumental and historic Supreme Court decision of Dobbs v. Jackson that made America a nation that stands for the life of the preborn child. Last year on Friday, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade (in the Dobbs v. Jackson decision), the notorious court decision that took away the right to life for pre born babies for 50 years. Texas Values part of a legal court brief that asked the high Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade was huge for Texas as we were automatically able to return our state law to uphold the protection of life by outlawing abortion. You will also remember that the Texas Heartbeat Law, which Texas Values led the effort in getting the law passed, was saving babies’ lives in Texas nearly 9 months before the Dobbs decision, proving that states can successfully pass and implement pro-life laws. In fact, some say that it was the Texas Heartbeat Law that helped influence the Dobbs decision!

Texas Values has led the efforts for Texas to be pro-life in every step of the way. From leading on the passing, implementation, and education on the Texas Heartbeat Law to advocating at the Texas legislature for increased funding to the Alternatives to Abortion program. The Texas Values team was at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. during the oral arguments of the Dobbs v. Jackson case. Since then, we have spoken at numerous conferences, held educational events, and published several articles about the next steps for the pro-life movement after the Texas Heartbeat Law and the overturning of Roe.

Nevertheless, we at Texas Values know the work did not end with the overturning of Roe. As a society, we must care for the babies entering the world. That’s why Texas Values advocated during the recent 88th Legislative Session for increased funding for the Alternatives to Abortion program (that received $140 million) and bills like SB 24 that seek to sustain the Alternatives to Abortion program and support healthy families. We also support laws that make sure our Texas law enforcement uphold our pro-life laws.
