Friend,

There’s been a troubling new development concerning corruption from right-wing Supreme Court justices.

We already knew that Justice Clarence Thomas accepted luxury gifts, travel, and more from a right-wing Texas billionaire. Now, we’ve learned that Justice Samuel Alito, author of the infamous Dobbs decision that upended women’s reproductive freedom, also allegedly accepted luxury travel from a right-wing billionaire of his own – a billionaire who had business before our nation’s highest court, according to a new report from ProPublica.

The alleged conflicts of interest are shocking – as was Justice Alito’s reaction to the threat of his conduct being exposed. When the investigative journalists at ProPublica reached out to Justice Alito for comment on their story, Justice Alito reportedly declined to respond to their questions directly – and instead rushed to his allies at The Wall Street Journal, having them publish a lengthy response from Alito in the opinion pages of their publication before ProPublica could get their story to print.

For a sitting Supreme Court justice to resort to manipulative PR tactics like that in order to undercut a journalistic investigation into his conduct is astounding.

Enough is enough. Justices Thomas and Alito are severely damaging the credibility of the court, which is why I’m calling for an official investigation into their corruption. Subpoenas and impeachment are very much on the table. I’m counting on grassroots support though, which is why I need your name on my emergency petition:

Thanks for speaking out.

Sincerely,

Subject: Holding Justice Clarence Thomas Accountable

Friend,

There’s a cherished tenet in American democracy that I have cited time and time again: No one – no matter how powerful – is above the law.

Donald Trump’s ethical corruption of the executive branch was bad enough. Now, right-wing Supreme Court justices are undermining the trust and credibility of our nation’s highest court, as well.

As an offender, Justice Clarence Thomas is in a category all his own. Not only did Justice Thomas refuse to recuse himself from cases regarding the Jan. 6 hearings – despite his wife, Ginni’s reported plotting to keep Trump in office – now we’ve learned that Thomas has accepted luxury gifts, travel, home purchases, and private school tuition from a notoriously right-wing Texas billionaire.

Chief Justice Roberts has declined every last request from Congress to hold Justice Thomas accountable – even refusing to implement a code of ethics for justices similar to those maintained by other public servants. This dereliction will be a stain on the chief justice’s personal legacy.

In the absence of action from the Court, Congress must act. That’s why I’m calling for an investigation into Justice Clarence Thomas and Supreme Court corruption – with subpoenas and impeachment being very much on the table. I’ve created a new petition to demand just that, and I’m counting on you to add your name now, friend:

The American public’s trust in the Supreme Court has plummeted to historic and troubling lows. It’s no exaggeration to say that we have reached a crisis of confidence with our third branch of government. We cannot sit idly by. Thank you for doing your part by taking action.

Dick
