Hi John -- It's Ellen Malcolm. That's me in the middle of the photo, back in 1985 when I founded EMILYs List.

Back then, things were different. Roe v. Wade was still relatively new, and we had no idea that the Supreme Court would strip away reproductive freedom decades after this settled precedent.

Now, we're facing a bigger challenge than ever before. It's been a year since Roe was overturned, and 14 states across the country have banned abortion entirely. It's a devastating loss, but EMILYs List was built to face this challenge head-on.

Thinking back to those early days, it's incredible to reflect on how far EMILYs List has come. We started with 25 women gathered in my basement, Rolodexes in hand, sending letters to our friends and working to raise money to elect Democratic pro-choice women.

Our hard work paid off right away. One year after we were founded, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (MD) -- one of our first endorsed candidates -- became the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in her own right.

It's been 38 years since EMILYs List began, and we've helped elect over 1700 candidates since then. I'm incredibly proud of how far we've come as an organization. I know we're ready to take on the challenge of a post-Roe landscape, elect more Democratic pro-choice women than ever, and WIN BACK our rights.
