Armed Forces Week
Armed Forces Week is a great opportunity to thank our brave service men and women for the work they do all year round.
Last week, I visited Albemarle Barracks to discuss supporting our Armed Forces and veterans across Tynedale and Ponteland.
Recently, on June 14th, we marked the 41st anniversary of the start of the Falklands War. We remember those who died fighting for our nation, including local Derek Armstrong from Prudhoe. A plaque now commemorates his sacrifice in Prudhoe Parish Church.
** Visits to Haltwhistle Primary Academy and Barclays Bank
------------------------------------------------------------
This week I was out and about across West Northumberland.
I visited Haltwhistle Primary Academy to chat with students and answer their questions about my role as an MP and our democracy. I also sat down with the headteacher to discuss how the school will benefit from £35,815 in additional funding in the coming financial year to ensure students are equipped with the skills they need for high-paid employment.
Since elected, every high school across Tynedale and Ponteland has been rebuilt or fully refurbished and our fairer funding for rural schools’ campaign has resulted in the biggest improvement in rural school funding for decades. This means local students are equipped with the skills for high-paid and high-quality employment.
It is crucial residents across Tynedale and Ponteland have continued access to quality banking services. I sat down with representatives from Barclays Bank to discuss the ongoing provision of in-person services in our rural communitites.
Lots of local issues came up on the doorstep including tackling anti-social behaviour by fighting for our fair share of the new 705 Northumbria police officers recruited since 2019.

** Privileges Committee Vote
------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday, I voted to accept the Privileges Committee Report.
I have the report in full and accept its conclusions. It is not acceptable to mislead the House of Commons, whoever the person, whatever the surrounding circumstances.
