** Visiting the Paris Air Show
------------------------------------------------------------

As part of our trade mission to Europe with World Trade Center Utah, we attended the Paris Air Show. On Monday, we visited with 10 of Utah’s aerospace and defense companies exhibiting at the Paris Air Show. We enjoyed learning about operations and products, and seeing all of the amazing innovations these companies are bringing to the aerospace and defense industry.

These Utah companies were included in the 2,453 exhibitions from companies in 49 countries. Utah continues to make an impact on the global scale!

** A new agreement with France
------------------------------------------------------------

On Tuesday, we strengthened our relationship with France by signing a letter of intent with Region Sud, a region that – like Utah – is known as a center for tourism and innovation.

Through this agreement, we'll establish a partnership between a natural park in Utah and a natural park in Region Sud and exchange best practices surrounding tourism. We’ll also work together to promote new technologies, innovation, and health care. For generations we have had a strong relationship with France in trade, business, and cultural collaboration, and this trade pact will only enhance those bonds.

** Trade pact with the UK
------------------------------------------------------------

After traveling to London, we met with the United Kingdom’s Trade Minister Nigel Huddleston and signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding. The U.K.-Utah MOU is the first to prioritize fintech as well as aerospace, supply chain resilience and life sciences.

We also met with many British officials – including the Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission, Minister of Investment and officials from the City of Cambridge and Cambridge University – to discuss trade partnerships, housing affordability, and investment.

Utah and the United Kingdom have a strong relationship. More than 10,700 Utahns are employed by U.K. subsidiaries and 38,330 Utah jobs are supported by exports to the United Kingdom. In 2022 alone, Utah exports to the U.K. exceeded $7 billion. The U.K. is Utah’s largest trading partner (in terms of exports).

We thank both the U.K. and France for the warm welcome to their countries and for their efforts to foster trade partnerships, investment, educational partnerships, and cultural collaboration with the Beehive State!

** Remember to visit vote.utah.gov
------------------------------------------------------------

Utah’s new election dates are set, and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson is encouraging every eligible voter to check or update their voter registration information on vote.utah.gov ahead of the Sept. 5 primary election and Nov. 21 general election. Utahns who exercise their franchise directly shape the government in the Beehive State.

From roads and taxes to housing and the economy – local and federal elected officials impact the world around you.

Your vote is your voice. Use it!

** What you can do to prevent wildfires
------------------------------------------------------------

We all love roasting s'mores and sharing stories around a campfire during the warm summer months. But did you know that the majority of wildfires in Utah are human-caused? They result from campfires, vehicles and unsecured chains, fireworks, and firearms. Here are a few of the ways YOU can prevent wildfires:
* Only start a campfire in an approved fire pit. Never leave your fire unattended. Don’t start a fire on a windy day. Always make sure your campfire is extinguished completely by drowning the fire with water, stir a stick around the campfire coals until they feel cool to the touch.
* Only launch fireworks on legal days and in areas that permit fireworks to be launched. Always have a fire extinguisher handy, and have a bucket of water or garden hose available to wet down the surrounding vegetation.
* Don't park a hot car or other machine in dry grass, even when pulling over to the side of the road. Make sure to inflate your vehicle’s tires at the proper pressure to avoid the sparks that can be thrown in a blowout.
