One City united in grief and resolve to stand against hatred and violence

One City

Communities and organisations across Nottingham have shown their solidarity as One City united in grief and its resolve to stand against hatred and violence, in the wake of last week?s devastating attacks.

The City Council is committed to working with local people and partner agencies to ensure that people are safe and feel safe in the city, and to look together at ways to build a positive lasting legacy following the tragic deaths of Ian Coates, Grace O?Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber.

The council will work with the police, faith and community groups, both universities, the business community, health organisations, and others under the banner of ?One City ? Nottingham Together? to ensure there is appropriate support for anyone who continues to struggle.

Police officers and Community Protection Officers are carrying out extra patrols in the city and its neighbourhoods, to provide extra visible reassurance and be a point of contact for people to speak to.

Flowers continue to be laid on the Council House steps, and the Book of Condolence remains open until the end of this week, for people to pay their respects.

Ongoing support will be provided for local communities. Support services for anyone traumatised by last week?s events are available through www.nottsvictimcare.org.uk, while mental health support is available here: https://www.nottsicb.ns.uk/your-health/mental-health.

Nottingham Castle opens on Monday

Nottingham Castle

Monday sees the exciting moment that Nottingham reopen its gates, which is an occasion I am very much looking forward to.

It took a lot of effort, but we are proud to have delivered on our promise to reopen in June. I am delighted that the people of Nottingham will have the opportunity to access the whole castle site, with a special offer for the opening day of just ?1.

The new general admission of ?12, allowing people to return as many times as they like for a year, is valid from Monday, along with free entry for kids aged 15 and under. We have had great feedback from visitors so far that are excited about the breadth of the site available as part of the all-year-round standard admission ticket, which I believe offers exceptional value for visitors, near and far.

Bringing new things to Nottingham from day one, Nottingham Castle will launch a new temporary gallery and experiences, not yet seen by visitors within the Nottingham Castle site since its redevelopment. It includes the newly reinvigorated Brewhouse Yard that showcases life of Nottingham through the ages from the 1500s to 1900s, and as part of the 75th anniversary of Windrush Day, the launch of ?70 Objeks & Tings,? brought to one of the Museum?s temporary galleries by Museumand (The National Caribbean Heritage Museum) working with Nottingham City Museums that will be available to the end of October too.? There will also be a series of artist commissions and interventions on display around the museum, by Jemisha Maadhavji and Tim Fowler.

I am particularly excited about the fact you are now able to purchase tickets for other people as gift and I have already taken advantage of this new feature for two of my friends. If you are interested in doing the same for your loved ones you can purchase them here.

Nottingham City Council wins Government funding for safe walking and cycling route on Porchester Road

bike

I?m pleased pleased to share that the City Council has won more than ?1.7million of Government funding to pay for investment in our cycling network in Mapperley. The funding will mean the council can deliver a far more modern pedestrian and cycling-friendly scheme, with clear separation from traffic on this key part of Nottingham?s cycle network.

Look out for a consultation coming later this summer to see the designs and give us your views.

Days of Action

days in action

Today I?ve been taking park in a Dales based ?Day of Action?, litter picking with school children and members of the community. We also had a tea and cake drop-in at Kingston Court and a health event at Dales Centre Library.

These days happen all over the city and are an opportunity for council staff, partners, members of the public and councillors to come together to improve the area.
