Charlie Kirk suggests that the CEO of OceanGate "killed himself and his customers with wokeness"
You knew it was coming. You KNEW that some right-wing knuckledragger would find a way to blame OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush's deeply irresponsible decision to disregard commonsense safety measures and take people to the bottom of the ocean in a glorified tin can operated by a video game controller on "wokeness." Enter professional agitator and hero to the basement-dwelling masses Charlie Kirk, who made the preposterous claim in reponse to an interview Rush once gave where he spoke about wanting his team to be younger and more inspirational, not just filled with "a bunch of 50-year-old white guys." Quantum leap much, Charlie? [RETWEET THAT!]

Clarence Thomas issues horrifying SCOTUS criminal justice decision
In a shocking miscarriage of justice, Thomas and his right-wing cohorts decided that federal courts cannot correct mistakes they made in previously decided cases, regardless of the consequences. As a result of this catastrophic opinion, people with illegal convictions and sentences — people who are legally innocent — will be stuck in prison for no good reason because the courts screwed up, not because they did. Just as the radical-right "originalists" on the high court claim the founding fathers intended...

Judge blocks Wyoming’s first-in-the-nation abortion pill ban
In a stirring, albeit temporary, win for reproductive rights, abortion pills will remain legal in Wyoming for now, after Teton County Judge Melissa Owens ruled that the state’s first-in-the-nation law to ban them won’t take effect July 1 while a lawsuit proceeds. The fight is far from over, of course, but any reprieve from the relentless, right-wing assault on abortion care is most welcomed news.

Moms for Liberty's group quotes Hitler in first newsletter
An Indiana chapter of the dark-money funded, right-wing organization, which has been labeled an extremist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for attacking the LGBTQ+ community and spreading conspiracy propaganda and indoctrination, literally quoted Adolf Hitler on the front page of their first public newsletter, saying the not-so-quiet part very out loud. After the newsletter became public, the chapter laughably tried to quell the uproar by adding "context" beneath the quote, before eventually deleting the newsletter altogether. Fascism is as fascism does.
Trump campaign's Election Day operations official appears before Jan. 6 grand jury
One of the now-defunct January 6 House committee's primary targets, G. Michael Brown, was hauled before a federal grand jury on Thursday. We can assume they discussed the committee's conclusion that Brown had been "aware of, and participated in, efforts to promote unsupported allegations of fraud" in order to steal the 2020 election for Trump.

Supreme Court rules against Navajo Nation in water rights dispute
The fury of Neil Gorsuch's 26-page dissent was not enough to sway his fellow conservatives on the court, as they ruled that an 1868 treaty with the Navajo Nation did not require the US government to take active steps to secure water access. The Navajo Nation is in desperate need of water, and they say the federal government has failed to keep promises and left tribe members to suffer. If there's one thing the United States government has reliably exhibited over the past 247 years, it's the utter and willful disregard for the rights and well-being of native Americans.
George Santos' secret backers identified
The mysterious source of Santos' $500,000 bail payment turned out to be...his father and his aunt, which is a lot less exciting than the dark-money billionaires we all assumed it might be. But it just goes to show how deep in over his head the Republican congressman and seven-time world cliff-diving champion has found himself. Send lawyers, guns, and money! Dad, get me out of this!
Giant African land snail spotted in Florida
One of the most ecologically damaging snails in the world has been spotted in Florida, and no, we're not talking about Ron DeSantis, folks. A quarantine area has been set up; there is no word yet whether or not the Florida governor and real-life Disney villain will support the snails protesting the state-imposed lockdown or defend their right to eat at least 500 different types of plants and wreak havoc on the environment. Bolsonaro: Trial which could bar Brazil ex-leader from office starts
Wow, would you look at that! In Brazil, they're putting their ex-president on trial for abusing his power and spreading false information about the country's electoral system ahead of their election and could even ban him from ever taking office again! Maybe...WE should try that? [RETWEET THAT!]

Today’s Action: Fight misinformation and attend an Abortion Academy session!
Regardless of what conservatives would like to be true, America is not a theocracy. More than 60% of Americans support legal abortion access. It is simply not enough to rely on blue-state facilities to serve as firewalls against the relentless legislative assault from anti-choice Republicans in red states; we must guarantee far-reaching reproductive healthcare throughout the most conservative nooks of our country. That takes a grassroots effort from ALL of us.
That’s why Shout Your Abortion, a national organization fighting to normalize reproductive healthcare, is hosting its first Abortion Academy session next Thursday, July 29th. The goal? Share information, connect, and plan for action. Fighting extremist, right-wing bills will take education, action, and coalition — this is the perfect place to join the fight.
A legislator’s job is not to play God, it’s to serve their communities. And SCOTUS’ overturning of Roe v. Wade set an extremely dangerous precedent for the treatment of anyone who isn’t a straight, religious, white, cisgender male.
Sign up for Shout Your Abortion’s FIRST Abortion Academy, next Thursday at 8pm, and join the fight for reproductive health!
Can’t attend? Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing your members of Congress, your voice is still needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative, Republican-dominated legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.
