Last month, I visited the refugee camp in Matamoros, Mexico, to bear witness to the consequences of Trump's racist immigration plan. I've visited refugee camps around the world, and the conditions that this administration is forcing asylum-seekers into are a disgrace to our nation.

Under Donald Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy, the nightmare at our border has descended into a full-blown human rights crisis.

Open latrines and sewages beside the Rio Grande river. Children kidnapped. Reports of rampant violence. Widespread illnesses – especially among children. And a level four travel advisory – which the State Department summarizes as "Do not travel."

All of this from the most powerful country in the world – a country who promises refugees a fair shot at a better life.

This is outrageously barbaric. And it must end.

We need to pass the DREAM Act which I have long supported and pass comprehensive immigration reform to finally fix our broken system.
