CBS News: Adel Daoud, Man Convicted Of Terrorism Plot In Chicago's Loop, To Be Resentenced
“A new sentencing hearing began Thursday for a Hillside man convicted in a terrorist bombing plot. Adel Daoud was convicted for trying to blow up what he thought was a 1,000-pound car bomb in the Loop back in 2012. It turned out it was an FBI sting operation. Daoud pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 years in prison, but a federal appeals court ruled that punishment wasn't harsh enough and ordered a new sentencing hearing. That hearing began Thursday morning and was expected to continue on Friday.”

Daily Sabah: MİT Eliminates Interpol-Wanted PKK Terrorist In Syria
“The National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has eliminated a PKK terrorist wanted by Interpol in northern Syria’s Qamishli. The terrorist Abdurrahman Çadırcı was identified as the so-called executive council member of the terrorist group. MİT occasionally carries out operations in Syria to eliminate top brass within the terrorist group in precision strikes. According to security sources quoted by Anadolu Agency (AA), Çadırcı was code-named both ‘Esad Faraşin’ and ‘Esad Avrupa’ because of his operations in Europe before. It was determined that the members of the council would not meet for security reasons and were based in different regions of Iraq, Syria and Europe while not venturing out of hideouts except for special meetings.”

Daily Sabah: Daesh Terrorist Preparing Attacks Caught In Istanbul
“A Daesh member was caught in an operation in Istanbul while preparing a terrorist attack Friday. As the Istanbul Police Department continues efforts to uncover the terrorist organization’s activities, police teams determined that a suspect, who was described as a ‘lone terrorist’ and seeking to carry out an attack, possibly as an armed suicide bombing, was found at an address in the Bahçelievler district. The terrorist A.H. was caught during the operation at the address while two unlicensed pistols, two magazines, materials considered to be used in bomb-making, and many digital and organizational materials were also seized. The organizational material included videos explaining how to make bombs and terrorist attacks. It was also discovered that A.H. researched previous terrorist attacks conducted in Istanbul. In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh a terrorist group.”

“Frustration with the rising threat of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan emerged at a meeting this week of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a defense and economic alliance platform consisting of China, Russia, India, Iran and five other Asian states. Russia and Tajikistan say Afghanistan, which holds an uncertain observer status in the SCO following the Taliban's return to power in 2021, has become a breeding ground for regional terrorist groups. ‘According to our information, terrorist groups such as al-Qaida, Hizb ut-Tahrir, the Islamic Movement of Eastern Turkistan, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, TTP, Jamaat Ansarullah are currently present in Afghanistan and pose serious threats to neighboring countries,’ said Amirbeg Begnazarov, a representative of Tajikistan, at an event Wednesday jointly hosted by the SCO and the United Nations. He said his nation was ‘very concerned about the concentration of different terrorist groups next to our borders that we've never had before [and it] is increasing day by day.’”

Reuters: Biden And Modi Urge Pakistan To Act Against Extremist Attacks
“U.S. President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called on Pakistan to act to ensure that its territory is not used to launch extremist attacks, the White House said in a joint statement. ‘They strongly condemned cross-border terrorism, the use of terrorist proxies and called on Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that no territory under its control is used for launching terrorist attacks,’ the White House said. Relations between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan have been fraught for years. Since British colonial rule in the Indian subcontinent ended in 1947, India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of them over the Muslim-majority Himalayan region of Kashmir, which they both claim in full but rule in part.”

The Times Of Israel: Jewish Extremists Try To Interrupt Messianic Jewish Event In Jerusalem
“Jewish extremists attempted to disrupt a convention of Messianic Jews in Jerusalem on Thursday. Activists from the Lehava organization, which opposes interfaith and interethnic relationships and marriages, and Or l’Achim, an organization that tries to counter Christian proselytization in Israel, tried to block participants from attending the event and attempted to break into the main hall at the Clal Center. Police were called to the event to disperse the protesters and ensure the safety of the event. One person was arrested for allegedly attacking police at the event.”

“The Kenya Defence Forces [KDF] have stepped up efforts to secure the country following increasing cases of Al-Shabaab, with top Generals now visiting various formations to motivate them in the fight against the group which has in the recent weeks infiltrated northeastern and North coast. On Wednesday, 8th Brigade Commander, Brigadier David Chesire, in the company of Artillery Brigade Commander Brigadier M. Mwenga, visited soldiers serving in Operation Amani Boni [OABI which saw them interact with troops in Witu and General Service Officers in Pandanguo. The multi-agency security teams have been combing through Boni Forest, a serious Al-Shabaab hot spot due to proximity to Somalia through Ras Kamboni. Early this week, three soldiers were killed after an IED explosion as they rushed to rescue GU troops who had been ambushed.”

Voice Of America News: Militancy Resurfacing In Jammu Division On Indian Side Of J&K
“Militance by separatist insurgents in Jammu, part of India’s Jammu and Kashmir territory, is resurfacing after a gap of 14 years, a former top military officer told VOA June 20. There have been at least six deadly attacks, resulting in the loss of 33 lives, including 10 civilians, since 2021. The first wave of militancy emerged in 1990. Deependra Singh Hooda, former general officer commanding-in-chief of the Indian army’s Northern Command said two factors contribute to the resurgence – difficulties the militants face in the Kashmir Valley because of tough Indian government response and a shifting of troops from Jammu to deal with border issues with China. ‘The deployment of troops to address border tensions with China in Ladakh has resulted in a relatively lower presence of security forces in certain areas of Jammu,’ Hooda said. ‘The reduced security presence provided an opportunity for terrorists to establish a foothold and to carry out their activities in the region,’ he said.”

“Four militants were killed along the Line of Control (LoC) at Kala Jungle area of Machil sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district in a joint operation of Army and Police. In a tweet, Kashmir Police said that that four militants have been killed in the operation while they were trying to infiltrate in to this side. Pertinently. this is the fourth operation in the district in recent days. Earlier two militants were killed in a joint operation by Army and Police at Dobanar in Machil sector. Another operation was conducted along LoC in Jumagand woods on June 16 leading to killing of five militants.”
The Economic Times: Iranian, Bangladeshi Nationals Held For Suspected Militants Links Sent To Five-Day Police Custody
“An Iranian and Bangladeshi national was remanded to five day police custody by a local court in Tripura. They were arrested for their suspected link with Pakistani militants. A senior police official said that the police on Wednesday arrested Iranian Yakub Yazdanbakhsh and Bangladeshi national Shahin Mondal at the Aswani market area under Amatoli police station on the outskirts of Agartala city. Police said that no valid passports and travel documents were found while a mobile phone was confiscated from their possession.’ Photos of Pakistani militant camps on the confiscated mobile phone. The Iranian person said that he had gone to Thailand.”
