Reduce deadly ship collisions to save Rice’s whales.
John,
The Gulf of Mexico is home to one of the world’s most endangered whale species: Rice’s whales. Fewer than 50 of these critically imperiled creatures are left.
As year-round residents of the Gulf, Rice’s whales must navigate highly trafficked waters and commercial shipping lanes. Collisions with vessels traveling at high speed are a major threat to the whales, hurting and killing them.
The good news is, these catastrophic collisions are preventable. By setting limits on vessel speed, we can save the lives of many of these whales.
And right now we have the chance to weigh in on a petition that calls for vessel speed limits and other actions to protect them.
