Government Is Force

There were violent riots in the old California hometown.  The violence occurred outside school board meetings and were over the forced teaching of LGBTQ materials in the schools.  Said the school board president, “She continued saying though everyone has a right to their own opinions, ‘no one has a right to threaten, bully, harass another person.'”  I agree with that entirely and yet it misses a larger point.

“Sticks and Stones….

…will break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”  Or so my father taught me when I was young – just like every other young person my age was called names by other kids.  Shakespeare wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”  The point is that names, words, are just names and words – they are not matters of substance, but we live in a world where names seem to matter a lot and it is increasingly hard to tell the difference between the substance and the label.
