We’re only 8 days away from our big FEC fundraising deadline, folks — so before I ask you to chip in, I want to explain what it means to our campaign.

Shortly after next week’s deadline, we’ll file what we’ve raised with the FEC, who will then publish our first quarterly public fundraising report since I announced my re-election campaign for U.S. Senate.

Our fundraising reports say so much about our campaign — not only how much we’ve raised, but more importantly, how many folks are fighting for our shared values.

But to be honest, this deadline makes me a little nervous, too. Everyone from election forecasters, to political pundits, to Mitch McConnell will be watching to see if we have the momentum needed to keep New Mexico blue and defend our Democratic Senate Majority.

I don’t believe in using scare tactics. The sky won’t fall and the earth won’t cave in if we don’t report strong fundraising numbers. But it’s important that we show we have strong momentum out of the gate — or risk National Republicans seeing this as an opportunity to exploit any weaknesses they spot in our report.

That’s why I’m reaching out today: Will you chip in any amount before our end-of-quarter deadline expires to start this campaign strong?
