We’re reaching the end of Pride month, and I want to talk to you about an issue that is making me mad.

You’ve seen the headlines. There’s more and more conservatives relentlessly attacking LGBTQ+ Americans, especially trans-people. They’ve used vitriolic rhetoric in speech after speech and pushed through legislation aimed at doing nothing but hurting and dividing.

They’re banning gender-affirming care, banning trans people and children from participating in sports and other community events, and banning mentions of trans and other LGBTQ+ authors from being taught in schools.

As a doctor, and as a parent, it angers me to see the GOP insert themselves into people’s personal decisions.

Politics should be left out of the hospital room. Patients and their doctors should be the ones to make medical decisions, not members of Congress or state legislators.

Here’s what I know to be true: MAGA Republicans are intentionally attacking a disenfranchised group of people for nothing more than political clout with their base.

Which is why it is so important that allies stand up for our trans peers right now.
