Employers Lack Tools to Legally Hire Needed Skilled and Unskilled Labor  - Two new bipartisan immigration bills include provisions to improve border security and expand our workforce. We have near-record low unemployment in Texas, yet more than 800,000 job vacancies. Every state in the nation is being impacted by inflationary workforce shortages. Our workforce is shrinking; by the next decade, we’ll have more senior citizens than children. We want to become less dependent upon foreign manufacturers, the foreign semiconductor industry, and foreign sources of energy. Unless we fix our immigration system, workforce shortages are only going to get worse. Bipartisan solutions to improve border security and improve the legal workforce include Representative Maria Salazar's (R-FL) Dignity Act, Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) and August Pflugers' (R-TX) U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rural and Remote Hiring and Retention Strategy Act of 2023, and proposals by Republican Governors Spencer Cox (UT) and Eric Holcomb (IN) to give states the flexibility to issue work permits to immigrants.

Republican Balanced Budget - A balanced budget is needed now more than ever. We must protect our children’s future, rein in reckless spending, and hold our nation’s leaders accountable. The Republican Study Committee Budget is a blueprint for conservative governance that will work to reshape our budget and boost the American economy.

Cornyn and Rubio Lead Bill to Quickly Replenish U.S. Defense Stockpiles After Providing Aid to Allies like Ukraine - While critical to defending democracy abroad, lethal aid provided to Ukraine demonstrated a need to strengthen U.S. stockpiles and provide defense contractors increased certainty to meet demand. DoD contracting processes include mandatory contract review periods and lengthy competitive open-bid windows that have slowed down efforts to rebuild stores of defense articles. This could be especially damaging in an emergency requiring a rapid response. This legislation would amend the DoD’s emergency acquisition authorities to allow them to use non-competitive procedures to quickly award a contract in order to replenish defense article stocks sent to an ally or partner after an attack by a foreign adversary of the U.S.
