News Headline from The Atlanta Journal Constitution stating "McBath, Democrats plan effort to get around GOP on gun control bills"

Hi John,

When my son Jordan was just 17, he had his life stolen from him. A man pulled up next to him at a gas station and fired ten shots into the car, hitting Jordan three times, and killing my only son. In their closing arguments at the trial, the lawyers for my son’s killer referenced Florida’s “stand your ground” law.

Last week I wrote an op-ed for MSNBC about “stand your ground” laws and how they contribute to hundreds of additional gun deaths every year. You can read the full piece at this link.

Currently “stand your ground” laws exist in 38 states and continue to take the lives of innocent people baselessly perceived as threats. They allow people to shoot first and ask questions later, resulting in countless tragic deaths.

It’s crucial that we build public pressure to put an end to these senseless gun laws that led to Jordan’s death and so many others. Sign on to my petition to say you’re with me in the fight to end these laws.

As I asked in the op-ed, why do we allow the proliferation of laws that make it harder to pursue charges against those who shoot and kill innocent victims? We can and must do better.

We have to say enough is enough. I will keep fighting until I fulfill my promise to Jordan – my promise to end senseless gun violence once and for all. Sign on to say you’re with me in this fight.
