Dear friends,
If what you saw in Montana these past two weeks inspires you, please support us with a gift today. This trial has been a multi-year monumental undertaking and it is donor dollars that make all of this happen.
We have so much love in our hearts for all the people who made trial in our case, Held v. State of Montana, possible.
The 16 young people with the shared drive to fight for a safer climate and who all cherish where they live. These young leaders connected and bonded over the course of the trial where they had the opportunity to come together and do something incredibly special on behalf of their fellow young Montanans. Their parents and families too, who stand by them on their journey, which is still just beginning.
Mae Nan Ellingson who set the stage last week by relaying her historical role as the youngest delegate to the Montana Constitutional Convention in 1972. She told the judge that, at the time, Montana was the only state that had a constitutionally enshrined right to a “clean and healthful climate”, but now Montana’s climate is “neither clean nor healthful.” She stands with these young Montanans in intergenerational solidarity.
10 world-renowned experts on climate science and health who donated their time and expertise because they believe in the merits of this case and the rights of all young Montanans to a safe climate.
Our attorneys & everyone behind the scenes at Our Children’s Trust, as well as our partners at Western Environmental Law Center and McGarvey Law.
The scores of journalists from around the globe who traveled to Montana to tell the story of this case, telling the truth of climate change in Big Sky Country.
A huge and welcoming community of supporters from across the state – and beyond! - which included over 20 Montanan environmental, climate, faith, and human rights organizations who cheered on the youth, who joined watch parties, who organized events, and who know how to power democracy in their state day-in and day-out. These partners have long been doing the work of climate justice in Montana and we cherish their partnership as we support the 16 young plaintiffs seeking justice in the courts.
And you, the Our Children’s Trust community. We could not do what we have done these last two weeks in Montana – and are already gearing up to do in Hawaiʻi and in Juliana v. United States! – without you.
Our goal is to raise $100,000. As we do, one of our long-time friends, the Delores Barr Weaver Legacy Fund, will match gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000! As of today, we are at 40% of our goal. Help us get to 100% of this generous matched gift today!
